		<description>Vertical drilling is more &#039;technically sound&#039; (and a lot cheaper) than directional drilling, but there can be many situations where a slant drill is preferred. For example, if we have a very hard stratum of rocks between the reservoir and the point on the ground vertically above, drilling though that stratum can be avoided by slant drilling. Another case is where space on the ground is limited due to high land costs or if we are on an offshore platform. In this case we must drill a very large number of wells, spanning a large subsurface area, from a very limited area at the surface.

In the end, it&#039;s economics that comes into play, like in most areas of our trade. Wells cost crores of Rupees to drill, and we must treat each one like our very own child.</description>

on a serious note, is slant drilling is a more technically sound method than &#039;vertical&#039; drilling? considering you had both vertical and slant access, would slant access be preferred?</description>
